Saying Goodbye to Year 24
I can’t believe I am 25 years old today. No clue why, but 25 seems so much older than 24. If you didn’t know my age before, that number might come as a surprise to you. It often does to strangers online! Anyway, year 24 was an absolute whirlwind spent with my best friend. I wouldn’t have changed a thing. So many major life milestones and each one came as a blessing and sometimes a challenge. I love being able to look back on so many wonderful memories, and I know year 25 is going to be the best one yet!
I Traveled to Costa Rica
If it weren't for the very long list of places I would like to visit, I would most definitely return to Costa Rica. The vast expanse of greenery was so good for the soul. My best friend and I went to Costa Rica during rainy season which ended up leading to countless hours of book reading in hammocks. This was one of the most relaxing vacations I have ever been on! You can find all the details about the trip here!
We Traveled to Portland, Oregon
About a month or so after Costa Rica, Andrew and I headed out West to explore the neighborhoods of Portland. Portlandia is a real thing. We spent three days eating delicious food, drinking yummy coffee, and exploring thrift shops. Our Airbnb was my absolute favorite. At this time we were still in a long distance relationship, so having uninterrupted, intentional time together was the best part.
We Traveled to Seattle, Washington
After Portland, we drove up to Seattle and experienced all the touristy things, which is totally opposite of what we did in Portland. We did the underground tour, got drunk at a dive bar, visited the glass museum, the space needle, Pike Place Market, had a seafood dinner, and finished the last night with a ride on the Ferris wheel. We both could picture ourselves living in Seattle. We absolutely loved it.
Andrew Bought a House
Last summer, we saw countless houses and all of a sudden Andrew discovered this big, purple (some claim it is grey) Victorian. Andrew made us drive by it before we even met the realtor to see the other houses that day. As soon as we walked inside he looked at me, and we both knew this was the place we would call home. The closing kept getting pushed back, and we were on the seat of our pants for a couple months. Finally, we got the keys and started making the place feel like home. This was Andrew’s first time buying a home, so I was super excited for him! Mind you, I was still living in Indianapolis when all of this went down. You can see what our house looked like here. We had already painted a couple rooms (the white ones) when I took the photos, but it’s mostly untouched. The house has come SUCH a long way since we bought it.
I Surprised Andrew with a Puppy
All summer, as Andrew waited to close on a house, he would research German Shepherd dogs for adoption. Once he closed on the house, he got pretty serious about adopting. There was one dog that even came to our house for a home visit. In the end, the adoption agency felt that we weren’t the best fit for the dog. I remember standing in Hobby Lobby with Andrew when they called to tell us the news. Andrew was heartbroken, so my crazy ass decided to go buy him a puppy. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I was still living in Indy when I got the puppy, so it made it hard, but here we are almost a year later, and Porter is a major part of the family!
I Moved to Michigan
Late fall, I got the “okay” to move to Michigan and take my job with me. We had been waiting months for an answer, and we finally had one. My stomach had been in knots trying to figure out how I could move to Michigan with Andrew and still work. Long distance was fine for us, but we constantly missed each other. Plus, Andrew works a crazy, ever changing schedule in residency with little time off. I officially moved into the house just days before Christmas! Jeeze, we were crazy in love (still are) and just over the moon to finally be together every day.
I Started a New Business
At the turn of the new year, I was helping a friend with some digital marketing. That led to helping her friend with digital marketing, and Thoughtfully Designed was born! I received all of the finalized LLC paperwork in February and started bringing on new clients. The startup period was crazy and it only got more stressful as my client book grew. I lived and breathed Thoughtfully Designed for a few months. I’ve always, always wanted to work for myself, so this was a huge leap forward towards my long term goals.
We Traveled to Tulum, Mexico
Oh Tulum, how I loved you. Perfect vacation with my favorite human. Our Airbnb was literally on the beach. The property also had a private cenote and perfectly placed hammocks for mid-afternoon naps. During the day we would blend up margaritas and lounge in the sun. At night we would venture out for yummy fish or tacos. Take me back! Along with all the other trips… I need to blog it!
I Went to Coachella
Never intended on going to Coachella. In fact, I didn’t even know what it was when my brother invited me last summer. I met him out in Palm Springs, California, and we had an absolute blast. The music was so diverse with everyone from Beyonce to Tash Sultana (a personal favorite). The food and drinks were expensive, but delicious, and the art was really, really cool. Three days at a music festival gets exhausting. Thankfully, we were staying in a resort. I tried to convince Andrew to get tickets for 2019, but that didn’t work,
We Got Engaged
I can’t believe it has already been two months since our engagement! Where in the hell does time go? I feel like the luckiest girl in the world, and holy shit, I have eight months left to plan an entire wedding! We have decided on a date, venue, and photographer. The rest is up in the air, and I really need to get to work. Subscribe to post notifications to get all the juicy wedding planning updates!
Traveled to Italy
We finished off year 24 of my life with a trip to Italy. It wasn’t all butterflies and rainbows. I never want to ride in a manual car again. More on that here. However, the trip turned around once we got out of Tuscany and to the Amalfi Coast. I have so many photos to share with you in the next couple of weeks!
Tonight, we are headed a few hours away for a close friend’s wedding rehearsal and dinner and tomorrow we will celebrate their marriage! Not a shabby way to spend your birthday weekend. Cheers to year 25 my friends!
